What is my disk quota on Datastore?

Your disk quota tells you how much disk space you have on the Datastore server.

Your Quota on Datastore

Students, faculty, staff, and retirees are each allotted 1GB (1000MB) of disk space on Datastore. This limit is known as your Datastore quota.

On the Web

To check your Datastore quota on the Web, do the following:

  1. Go to http://www.ilstu.edu/ulid/.
  2. Click on Datastore Quotas and log in.
  3. Your disk usage is displayed.

To check your Datastore quota in Windows, do the following:

  1. Map network drives to your personal share on Datatore.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • In Windows Vista, click Start > Computer.
    • In Windows XP, click Start > My Computer.
  3. Right-click on your Datastore share and select Properties.
  4. Your disk usage is displayed.

Mac OS X

To check your Datastore quota in Mac OS X, do the following:

  1. Map network drives to your personal share on Datastore.
  2. Hold down the Control key on your keyboard and click on your Datastore share.
  3. Select Get Info.
  4. Your disk usage is displayed.

Quota Exceeded — Email Notifications

If you use over 1000MB of disk space on Datastore, you will receive multiple email notifications warning you that you have exceeded your disk quota on Datastore.

Datastore quota notifications indicate the following:

  • Maximum disk usage (1000MB) on Datastore
  • Current disk usage (over 1000MB) on Datastore
  • Amount of time you have to correct the problem
  • Failure to reduce your disk usage means Datastore changes to read-only mode (see below)

To resolve this problem, you must reduce your disk usage on Datastore. This can be accomplished by moving files from Datastore to another storage device (like a USB thumb drive, for example) or by deleting files from Datastore.

Read-Only Mode

If you do not reduce your disk usage within the time period indicated in the email notification you received, your personal Datastore share will change to read-only mode.

When your Datastore share is in read-only mode:

  • You can view and open files
  • You cannot modify or save files
  • You can delete files
  • You can move files to another storage device

Important!
Never try to edit or modify files on Datastore while you are in read-only mode. You will lose data if you try to modify files stored there. Reduce your disk usage first. Then you can modify files.

Your files will never be automatically deleted. Regardless of how long you remain over your quota, your files will never be deleted or moved by a system administrator or the Datastore server.
