Setting up or removing a ULID email nickname

You can set up an easy-to-remember nickname for your university email address.

A ULID email nickname provides you with an alternate email address you can give out to your friends, coworkers, or instructors. An email nickname is an alias for your regular ilstu.edu email address. It's not another account—it's just another way for your associates to send you email.

If you create an email nickname, it will not replace your ULID. You will still log in to email just as before. Email sent to you, regardless of whether it was sent to your regular email address or your email nickname address, arrives in your Inbox just like normal.

To create a ULID email nickname for your ilstu.edu email address, do the following:

  1. Go to http://www.ilstu.edu/ulid/.
  2. Click ULID Email Nickname and log in.
  3. Carefully review the information about email nicknames. Then click Accept.
  4. You are presented with the Email Nickname page.

Use the Email Nickname page to select, change, or remove your ULID email nickname.

  • If you already have a ULID email nickname in place, it is displayed.
  • A list of suggested nicknames are listed.
  • To choose an email nickname, select it from the list and click Send.
  • To remove your current email nickname, select REMOVE your email nickname and click Send.
  • If you don't like the suggested email nicknames, you may request a custom email nickname. Select Choose your own custom email nickname and type your requested nickname in the box (before "@ilstu.edu"). Type a reason for the request in the box below and click Send. Your custom nickname must be based on your name.

Changes made to your email nickname take effect immediately. If you requested a custom email nickname, the system administrators will evaluate your request an email you to let you know if the request has been approved or denied.

After setting up an email nickname, you will receive email that is sent to yourULID@ilstu.edu and to yourNickname@ilstu.edu.
