Understanding the importance of your ISU email account

Your ISU email address provides the university with a reliable means of contacting you. As a member of the University, you are responsible for checking your ISU email account.

Your ISU Email Account

As a member of Illinois State University you are responsible for checking your ISU email account.

Your email address is yourULID@ilstu.edu. Before you can use email, you must activate your ULID account. For more information, refer to 1021: How do I activate my ULID account?.

Why is my ISU email address important to me?

You should regularly check your ISU email account to avoid missing info on important issues like:
  • Financial aid
  • Course registration
  • University news
  • Upcoming events
  • Password notifications
  • ULID account notifications
  • Class-related email from teachers
  • Work-related email from coworkers
  • Network and system maintenance
As the University transitions from traditional mail via the US Postal Service to environmentally friendly email, your ISU email address gives the University a permanent, reliable means of contacting you.

What if I have another email address I prefer to use?

You may forward your ISU email to another email address if you prefer. This option allows you to continue using your preferred address without missing important university email. For more information, refer to 1113: Setting up or removing an email forward for your ULID email account.

When sending email to the University, please note that some campus offices, departments, and instructors ignore email not sent from ilstu.edu. If you forward your university email to another address, you may still need to send email from your ISU email address. You can do this by logging in to Webmail at http://webmail.ilstu.edu/ or iCampus at http://www.icampus.ilstu.edu/.
