Coping with spam in Webmail by creating a filter to move ISU email to a designated folder

By creating a filter in Webmail, you can automatically move ilstu.edu email messages into a designated folder so they are easier to find and read.

Overview of ISU Email Filter in Webmail

These instructions explain how to create an email filter which will automatically move email sent From: something@ilstu.edu to a folder you specify.

By moving ilstu.edu email out of your Inbox into a designated folder, you can more easily locate important ISU email messages. This can help you because you no longer need to wade through spam email to find your ISU email.

This filter won't prevent you from getting junk email; it helps you separate junk email from ISU email. Also, legitimate emails sent to you from addresses other than ilstu.edu will still show up in your Inbox (along with whatever spam you receive).

Create ISU Email Filter in Webmail

To create a filter in Webmail to automatically move email From: ilstu.edu to a folder called "ISU Email" follow the directions below.

  1. Go to http://webmail.ilstu.edu/.
  2. Log in with your ULID and password.
  3. Click on the Folders icon.
  4. Select Create Folder from the Choose Action: drop-down box. (Figure 1)
  5. When you are prompted to name the folder, type ISU Email and click OK.
  6. Click on the Filters icon.
  7. Click on the New Rule button.
  8. In the Rule Name box, type ISU Email.
  9. Select All of the following.
  10. Select From in the Select a field drop-down box.

  12. Select Deliver to folder from the drop-down menu under Do this.
  13. Select ISU Emails from the Select target folder drop-down box.

After creating this filter, any emails sent to you from an ISU (ilstu.edu) email address will be automatically moved to the ISU Emails folder you created.
