Configuring Outlook 2007 for Exchange

These instructions explain how to configure Outlook 2007 for Exchange, whether for calendar only or both calendar and email.

Outlook 2007 on an ADILSTU Computer

Follow these steps to set up Outlook 2007 for Exchange on a computer that belongs to ADILSTU. These instructions apply to most office computers on campus.

  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. If your Control Panel is not currently in classic view, do one of the following:
    • In Windows XP, click Switch to Classic View on the left.
    • In Windows Vista, click Classic View on the left.
  3. Double-click the Mail icon. If you do not have a Mail icon, open Outlook 2007 instead and skip to step 5.
  4. Do one of the following based on what your screen looks like:
    • Click Add.... Type ISU Exchange in the Profile Name box. Then click OK.
    • Click E-mail Accounts.... Then click New....
  5. Depending on your computer, you may see some or all of the following:
    • If you are asked, Would you like to configure an E-mail account? Select Yes and click Next.
    • If you are prompted to select an account to set up, select Microsoft Exchange and click Next.
    • If you are prompted to enter your personal information, complete all fields and click Next.
  6. Outlook will contact the Exchange server to finish setting up your account. You will see three green check marks appear, and the message, "Your e-mail account is successfully configured to use Microsoft Exchange."
  7. Click Finish.

You can now use Outlook 2007 with Exchange.

Outlook 2007 on a non-ADILSTU Computer

Follow these steps to set up Outlook 2007 for Exchange on a computer that does not belong to ADILSTU. These instructions apply to most personally-owned computers.

  1. If you are off campus, connect with VPN. For more information, refer to 1091: Connecting with Cisco VPN Client for Windows.
  2. Click Start > Control Panel.
  3. If your Control Panel is not currently in classic view, do one of the following:
    • In Windows XP, click Switch to Classic View on the left.
    • In Windows Vista, click Classic View on the left.
  4. Double-click the Mail icon. If you do not have a Mail icon, open Outlook 2007 instead and skip to step 6.
  5. Do one of the following based on what your screen looks like:
    • Click Add.... Type ISU Exchange in the Profile Name box. Then click OK.
    • Click E-mail Accounts.... Then click New....
  6. Do one of the following:
    • If you are asked to choose an email service, select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP. Then click Next.
    • Otherwise, skip to step 7, below.
  7. Put a check mark next to the option, Manually configure server settings or select additional server types. Then click  Next.
  8. Select Microsoft Exchange. Then click Next.
  9. You must specify the full server name in the Microsoft Exchange server box. To determine the appropriate Exchange server name, please log in to the Exchange Server Lookup web page.
  10. Enter your ULID in the User Name box.
  11. Click Next.
  12. You will be prompted to log in. Enter adilstu\yourULID in the User name: box. For example, Reggie Redbird enters adilstu\rrredbi as his user name. Enter your password in the Password: box.
  13. Outlook will contact the Exchange server to finish setting up your account. You will see the message, "Congratulations! You have successfully entered all the information required to setup your account."
  14. Click Finish.

You can now use Outlook 2007 with Exchange.

Off-campus users: To check and send email from off campus, you need to first establish a VPN connection.
