Overview of setting up Exchange calendar only

This article overviews the process of setting up Outlook or Entourage for Exchange calendar only.

Exchange Calendar Only

This is an overview of setting up Outlook or Entourage for Exchange calendar only (as opposed to Exchange for both calendar and email). This option implies the following:

  • You will use Outlook, Entourage, or Outlook Web Access (OWA) for your calendar.
  • You may continue to use your preferred email client, such as Webmail, iCampus email, Thunderbird, Eudora, or Apple Mail. Or you may use Outlook or Entourage (configured for IMAP) for email.

If you are interested in Exchange for both calendar and email, refer to 1242: Overview of setting up Exchange calendar and email.

Step 1 - Contact your department's technical support staff

The first thing you should do is contact your department's technical support staff. Your department or college may have already determined the best Exchange option for your area. If you do not yet have access to Exchange, you can  request an Exchange account using the Technology Request website.

Step 2 - Configure Outlook or Entourage for Exchange

Refer to the appropriate instructions below to configure Outlook or Entourage.

Important - Do not skip reading instructions
Each set of configuration instructions contains important information on setting up Outlook or Entourage. Failure to read and follow these instructions can yield unanticipated results.

Step 3 - Set up Exchange calendar only server-side rule

Exchange calendar-only users must set up a calendar only server-side email rule. This rule helps keep your Exchange Inbox tidy so it contains only meeting-related email.

Step 4 - Move personal settings (Outlook/Entourage IMAP users only)

If you are switching to Outlook or Entourage (configured for IMAP) for email, you may want to move your address books, filters, signatures, stationary, and other personal settings. Contact your department's technical support staff for help.

If you stay with your current email client and use Outlook or Entourage only for your calendar, you do not need to move personal settings like address books.
