Configuring and using LDAP directory search in Entourage 2004/Entourage 2008

Configure and use LDAP directory search in Entourage 2004 or Entourage 2008 so you can search for all people at Illinois State University.

Before You Begin

You can search for ISU people using the unnamed entry in your Entourage address book. For more information, refer to 1273: Searching for ISU people with the address book in Entourage 2004/Entourage 2008.

Rather than use the unnamed entry, you may create and name an LDAP directory services entry. This works exactly like the unnamed address book entry, but it displays the name, "ISU People Search." The only reason to add a new directory service entry (as described below) is so the Entourage address book displays a recognizable, named search entry.

Configure "ISU People Search"

To configure LDAP directory search in Entourage 2004 or Entourage 2008, do the following:

  1. Open Entourage.
  2. In Entourage, click Tools > Accounts.
  3. Click the Directory Service tab and then click New.
  4. If the Account Setup Assistant opens, click Configure account manually.
  5. Type ISU People Search in the Account name box.
  6. Type ad.ilstu.edu in the LDAP server box.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • In Entourage 2004, click the check box labeled, This server requires me to log on.
    • In Entourage 2008, click the check box labeled, This LDAP server requires authentication.
  8. Type your ULID in the Account ID: box.
  9. You may leave the Password: box empty, and Entourage will prompt you for it when needed.
  10. Click on the Options tab at the top of the Edit Account screen.
  11. In the box labeled, Search base:, type DC=ad,DC=ilstu,DC=edu and then click OK.

Use "ISU People Search"

To search for people using the new ISU People Search, do the following:

  1. Open Entourage.
  2. Click the Address Book icon in the upper left of the window.
  3. Click the arrow next to Directory Services to expand it.
  4. Select ISU People Search underneath Directory Services.
  5. Enter your password if prompted to do so.
  6. Use the search box in the top right of the window.

The drop-down menu to the left of the search box controls your searches. By default, Name starts with is selected. This means, you must search using a person's name (and not his or her ULID). Click the drop-down menu and select E-mail address starts with to search by ULID or email address.
