With the "Exchange calendar only" option, you continue using email as you do now. You use Exchange for its calendar only.
There are two options for using Exchange. This article discusses the default option, Exchange Calendar Only.
If you choose this option, you will access Exchange for your calendar only. You will continue to use email just as you do now. You will use Outlook or Entourage to get your Exchange calendar. You can also access your Exchange calendar on the Web using Outlook Web Access (OWA) at http://owa.ilstu.edu. This is the default option.
If you choose this option, you access Exchange for both calendar and email. You won't use Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Webmail, or iCampus for email anymore either. You will use Outlook or Entourage for all of your email needs. If you need to get your email on the Web, you can log in to Outlook Web Access (OWA) at http://owa.ilstu.edu.
If you do not yet have access to Exchange, your can request an Exchange account using the Technology Request website.
You need Outlook or Entourage installed. You also need to install the "Exchange calendar only" email rule in Outlook/Entourage. You should contact your department's technical support staff for help.
To view or make changes to your calendar, open Outlook or Entourage (or log in to OWA).
When you invite people to meetings, they receive the invitations as emails. When they accept or decline your meeting, your Exchange calendar is updated so you know whether or not they will attend.
When someone invites you to a meeting, you will get the invitation as an email. As an Exchange calendar-only user, you will see the email invite in your regular email Inbox. However, to actually accept or decline the meeting invite, you must open Outlook or Entourage to respond.
You continue getting email just as you do now. You can continue using Thunderbird, Apple Mail, iCampus, or Webmail for your email needs. As mentioned above, meeting-related emails are delivered to both your regular Inbox and to your Exchange Inbox. Once you see a meeting email in your regular Inbox, you can delete it; then go into Outlook or Entourage to respond to the meeting invitation.
