Configuring Entourage 2004/2008 with MailVPN settings

Configure Entourage 2004 or Entourage 2008 so you can check and send email without establishing an independent VPN connection.

Before You Begin

These instructions explain how to configure Entourage 2004 or Entourage 2008 with your ULID email account. Follow these instructions if you plan to use Entourage primarily from off campus (with the option of using it from on campus).

If you plan to use Entourage primarily from on campus, refer to 1144: Configuring Entourage 2004/2008 with typical mail settings.

Faculty/Staff on Exchange: If you are faculty or staff and use Entourage for email, you may be on Exchange. If you are on Exchange for email, these instructions do not apply to you. Contact your department's technical support for help.

Configure Entourage 2004/2008

  1. Open Entourage. If the Entourage Setup Assistant automatically launches, close it.
  2. Go to the Entourage menu and select Account Settings....
  3. Click New.
  4. Select IMAP from the Account type: drop-down menu. WebVPN mail settings do not work with POP. For more information, see 1172: What is the difference between POP and IMAP?.

  8. Type your email address in E-mail address: box.
  9. Type your ULID in the Account ID: box.
  10. Type mailvpn.ilstu.edu in the IMAP server: box.
  11. We recommend leaving the Password: box empty so Entourage prompts you to enter your password each time you check mail.
  12. Click the button labeled, Click here for advanced receiving options.
  13. Place a check mark next to This IMAP service requires a secure connection (SSL).
  14. Close the advanced options.
  15. Type mailvpn.ilstu.edu in the Outgoing mail server: box.
  16. Click the button labeled, Click here for advanced sending options.
  17. Place a check mark next to SMTP service requires secure connection (SSL).
  18. Place a check mark next to Override default SMTP port: and change the number to 465.
  19. Place a check mark next to SMTP server requires authentication.
  20. Select the option, Use same settings as receiving mail server.
  21. Close the advanced options.
  22. Click OK.
  23. If you are prompted to enter your password, you may do so.

Entourage is now configured with MailVPN settings. This configuration allows you to check and send email from both on campus and off campus without needing an independent VPN connection.
