How can I change my ULID?

You can request to have your ULID changed if your legal name changes or if your ULID is offensive.

Before You Begin

You can request a ULID change under the following circumstances:

  • Legal Name Change: If your legal name changes, you can request a ULID change so it matches your new name.
  • Offensive ULID: If your ULID spells an offensive word or phrase, you can request to have it changed.

Other than the two reasons given above, ULID changes are not allowed. For example, you cannot have your ULID changed just because you don't like it or because it does not conform to user names you use elsewhere.

How to Request a ULID Change

To request a ULID change, do the following:

  1. Go to Technology Requests page on the University Computer Help Desk website.
  2. Click on ULID Change Request.
  3. Log in with your ULID and password.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Completing the ULID Change Request form automatically generates an Incident for your problem. You will receive a confirmation email when your Incident is created and another email when your Incident has been processed and closed.

How long will it take?

It can take up to 3 business days to process a ULID change request based on a legal name change. It can take up to 5 business days to process a ULID change request due to an offensive ULID.

Do I use my old ULID or my new ULID to log in?

Use your old ULID to log in until your ULID has been changed. Afterward, use your new ULID to log in. If you have problems logging in with your old ULID, try logging in with the new ULID.

What password do I use?

Continue using your current password to log in. When your ULID changes, it will not affect your password.

Will I still receive email sent to my old email address?

After your ULID has been changed, you will still receive email sent to your old address. Email sent to your old email address (oldULID@ilstu.edu) will be delivered to your new email address (newULID@ilstu.edu). This is temporary and lasts for six months.

What else do I need to know?

After your ULID has been changed, you should make sure that all appropriate staff and systems are updated to use your new ULID and email address. For details on making these changes, refer to 1466: ULID Change Request Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
