ULID Change Request Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

After having your ULID changed, you should make sure all systems and staff that reference your old ULID are updated to use your new ULID.

How do I change my ULID?

ULID changes can be requested through the Technology Requests page on the University Computer Help Desk website. For more information, refer to 1465: How can I change my ULID?.

Will I still receive email sent to my old email address?

After your ULID has been changed, you will still receive email sent to your old address. Email sent to your old email address (oldULID@ilstu.edu) will be delivered to your new email address (newULID@ilstu.edu). This is temorary and lasts for six months.

Do I use my old ULID or my new ULID to log in?

Use your old ULID to log in until your ULID has been changed. Afterward, use your new ULID to log in. If you have problems logging in with your old ULID, try logging in with the new ULID.

What password do I use?

Continue using your current password to log in. When your ULID changes, it will not affect your password.

Who do I need to inform about my new ULID and new email address?

Contact your department, instructors, and colleagues about your new ULID and new email address. Your technical support staff or system administrators may need to update the systems you use so your new ULID has the necessary access.

Do I need to reconfigure my email client?

If you use an email client like Thunderbird, Outlook, Apple Mail, etc., configure it to use your new email address. Your department's technical support staff can help you with your office computer. The University Computer Help Desk can assist you with your personal computer.

How does my new ULID impact email aliases I belong to?

Each email alias you belong to must be updated to use your new email address. Email aliases are typically used by departments or organizations on campus to allow communication from an "official" email address. For example, if you work for the University Computer Help Desk, you might belong to the email alias, helpdesk@ilstu.edu. Contact the University Computer Help Desk for assistance with updating your membership to one or more email aliases.

How does my new ULID impact listservs I belong to?

You should update your listserv memberships to use your new email address. Listervs are used by departments, classes, and campus organizations to make announcements and to facilitate discussion. Most campus listserv addresses end in -L. For example, a popular listserv on campus is ISUNET-L.

Unsubscribe to each listserv you belong to. This will remove your old email address from the listserv. Then subscribe to each listserv again using your new email address. For more information, refer to 1106: Subscribing and unsubscribing to a listserv.

Some listserv memberships are controlled by the owner. You cannot subscribe to them yourselfyou must be added to the listserv by the owner. Contact the listserv owner and ask that person to remove your old email address and add the new one. Contact the University Computer Help Desk for assistance with updating your membership to one or more listservs.
