Configuring "isunet" on Windows Mobile 6 using PEAP

These instructions explain how to configure Windows Mobile 6 to connect to the "isunet" wireless network on campus.

Before You Begin

These instructions are for Windows Mobile 6.

These instructions require you to use an existing Internet connection, such as 3G, to download Entrust certificates onto your Windows Mobile 6 device. You also need to be within range of the "isunet" wireless network to complete the setup.

Configure Windows Mobile 6

Configuring Windows Mobile 6 for "isunet" wireless access involves two main steps:

  • Step 1 - Download and install Entrust certificates for Windows Mobile 6
  • Step 2 - Configure "isunet" in Windows Mobile 6

Each of these steps is explained in detail below.

Step 1 - Download and Install Entrust Certificates for Windows Mobile 6

To download and install the Entrust certificates for Windows Mobile 6, do the following:

  1. To complete these instructions, you must use an existing Internet connection, such as 3G.
  2. Launch Internet Explorer on your device by clicking Start > Internet Explorer.
    • We recommend using Internet Explorer. Other web browsers, such as Opera, may not work.
  3. Using Internet Explorer, download Entrust certificates for Windows Mobile 6.
    • On the download window, put a check mark in the box labeled Open file after download.
  4. After the .ZIP file has been downloaded, it will open in a new window.
  5. Click the plus sign (+) next to the .ZIP file you downloaded. This file is named Entrust Cert for Windows Mobile 6.zip.
    • You will see two files appear below the .ZIP file. They are named entrust_2048_ca.cer and entrust_l1b.cer.
  6. Click the file named entrust_2048_ca.cer.
    • A Certificate Installation dialog will appear at the bottom of the window.
  7. Click More.
  8. Click Install.
  9. You will see a message that says One or more certificates were installed successfully. Click OK.
  10. Click the file named entrust_l1b.cer.
  11. You will see another message that says One or more certificates were installed successfully. Click OK.

Now that the Entrust certificates are installed on Windows Mobile 6, you can configure your device to connect to "isunet."

Step 2 - Configure "isunet" in Windows Mobile 6

To configure "isunet" in Windows Mobile 6, do the following:

  1. On the Today screen, click the Connection tab.
  2. Click the wi-fi icon to open the Wireless Manager.
  3. If wireless is currently on, turn it off. You can do this by clicking the Wi-Fi bar.
  4. Click the Wi-Fi bar to turn wireless on.
  5. Click Menu > Wi-Fi Settings.
  6. Click isunet from the list labeled Configure Wireless Networks.
  7. Select Internet for Connects To:.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Select WPA2 for Authentication: and AES for Data Encryption:.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Select PEAP for EAP type:.
  12. Click Finish.
  13. Click OK in the upper-right corner to close Wi-Fi Settings.
  14. Click the Wi-Fi bar to turn off wireless.
  15. Click the Wi-Fi bar again to turn wireless back on.
  16. Click Done in the lower-left corner to close Wireless Manager.

The "isunet" wireless network is now configured for Windows Mobile 6.

Automatically Connecting to "isunet"with Windows Mobile 6

When you are within range of "isunet," Windows Mobile 6 may automatically connect and prompt you to log in. If that happens, do the following:

  1. Enter your ULID and password.
  2. Type ADILSTU in the Domain box.
  3. Click Connect.

Manually Connecting to "isunet" with Windows Mobile 6

Instead of automatically connecting to "isunet," your Windows Mobile 6 device may automatically connect to "isu-guest" or "isu-public." In such a case, you can still manually connect to "isunet."

To manually connect to "isunet" using Windows Mobile 6, do the following:

  1. On the Today screen, click the Connection tab.
  2. Click the wi-fi icon to open the Wireless Manager.
  3. Turn on wireless if it's not already on. You can do this by clicking the Wi-Fi bar.
  4. Click Menu > Wi-Fi Settings.
  5. Click and hold isunet in the list labeled Configure Wireless Networks. When you click and hold, you should see a pop-up menu appear.
  6. Click Connect on the pop-up menu.
  7. Enter your ULID and password.
  8. Type ADILSTU in the Domain box.
  9. Click Connect.
