These instructions explain how to configure Blackberry to connect to the "isunet" wireless network on campus.
Before You Begin
These instructions are for Blackberry phones that support wireless.
These instructions require you to connect your Blackberry to your computer using the cable that came with your device. You will use Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.7 (or later) on a Windows XP or Windows Vista computer to install Entrust certificates onto your Blackberry device. You also need to be within range of the "isunet" wireless network to complete the setup.
Configure Blackberry
Configuring Blackberry for "isunet" wireless access involves four main steps:
- Step 1 - Download and install Entrust certificates onto Windows XP or Windows Vista
- Step 2 - Install Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.7 onto Windows XP or Windows Vista
- Step 3 - Install Entrust certificates onto your Blackberry
- Step 4 - Configure "isunet" on your Blackberry
Each of these steps is explained in detail below.
Step 1 - Download and Install Entrust Certificates for Blackberry onto Windows XP or Windows Vista
To download the Entrust certificates for Blackberry and install them onto Windows XP or Windows Vista, do the following:
- Using a web browser on your computer, download the Entrust Certificate for Blackberry.
- You should download the Entrust certificates for Blackberry, rather than downloading the Entrust certificates for Windows Vista or Windows XP.
- Double-click on the ZIP file you downloaded. This file is named Entrust Cert for Blackberry.zip.
- Double-click on the first certificate file inside the ZIP. It is named entrust_2048_ca.cer.
- Click the Install Certificate... button.
- Click Next.
- Select the first option: Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- You will see the message, The import was successful. Click OK.
- Click OK on the certificate window.
- Repeat these steps for the second certificate file, entrust_l1b.cer.
Step 2 - Install Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.7 (or later) onto Windows XP or Windows Vista
To download and install Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.7 (or later) onto Windows XP or Windows Vista, do the following:
- Go to http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads.
- Select Blackberry Desktop Software v4.7 from the drop-down menu and click Next.
- The exact version of the Blackberry Desktop Software may be different than 4.7. We recommend downloading the latest version of the software available.
- Download Desktop Manager 4.7.0 B50 Multilanguage - With Media Manager.
- Double-click on the file you downloaded to begin installation.
- When the setup wizard begins, select Custom Install.
- Click Next.
- Click the red X next to Certificate Synchronization and select This feature will be installed on the local hard drive.
- Click Next.
- Do one of the following:
- If you plan to use your Blackberry for both Exchange Calendar and Email (i.e. in conjunction with the campus Blackberry Enterprise Server), select Integrate with a work email account. Then click Next.
- On the next screen, select For Microsoft Exchange (typically used with Microsoft Outlook). Then click Next.
- On the next screen, select Redirect messages using the Blackberry Enterprise Server. Then click Next.
- If you plan to use your Blackberry with your IMAP email account or with your Exchange email only (i.e. not with your Exchange calendar), select Integrate with a personal email account.
- Click Install.
- When the installation is finished, restart your computer.
Step 3 - Install Entrust Certificates onto Your Blackberry
To install Entrust certificates onto your Blackberry, do the following:
- Connect your Blackberry to your computer using the cable that came with your device.
- Launch the Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.7 (or later).
- The first time you launch the Blackberry Desktop Manager, you may get a dialog window that prompts you to Set New Key Store Password. Enter a password in both the New Password: and Confirm Password: boxes and then click OK.
- This is not the same as the password for your Blackberry device. It will be used to control installing new certificates onto your Blackberry. You must set a key store password to install the Entrust certificates onto your Blackberry device.
- If you have a password set for your Blackberry device, you will be prompted to enter it before proceeding.
- You may receive a message that says, New certificates have been found. Click OK.
- Click Certificate Synchronization on the Blackberry Desktop Manager window.
- If you have not yet set a key store password, you will be prompted to do so now. You must set a key store password or you will not be able to connect to "isunet." If you have already set a key store password, enter it now.
- You may receive a message that says, New personal certificates have been found. Would you like to mark these certificates for download to your device? Click Yes.
- Click Intermediate Certificates tab.
- Put a check mark next to Entrust Certification Authority L1B.
- Click Root Certificates tab.
- Put a check mark next to Entrust.net CA (2048).
- Click Synchronize.
- Enter your key store password.
- When the Entrust certificates have been synced to your computer, you will see the message, Finished loading certificates, in the lower-left corner of the Blackberry Desktop Manager window.
- Click Exit.
- Close Blackberry Desktop Manager.
- Disconnect your Blackberry from your computer.
Step 4 - Configure "isunet" on Your Blackberry
To configure "isunet" on your Blackberry, do the following:
- Press the Blackberry menu button.
- Click Options.
- If you don't see Options, press the Blackberry menu button and click Show All.
- Click Wi-Fi Connections.
- Press the Blackberry menu button and click New.
- Click Scan for Networks. Blackberry will begin scanning for wireless networks in your area.
- Click isunet from the list of wireless networks.
- Enter your ULID and password.
- Click None Selected next to CA Certificate.
- Scroll through the list of certificates and click Entrust Certification Authority - L1B.
- This certificate may have a red X next to it. This is normal.
- Click Save.
- Enter
isunet as the Profile Name. - Click Next.
- You will see a message indicating success. Click Finish.
