How to install the VPN profile for iPhone and iPod Touch

Faculty and staff can download and install the VPN profile for iPhone and iPhone Touch.

Before You Begin

Download the VPN profile using your iPhone or iPod Touch to automatically configure VPN for your iPhone or iPod Touch. You must complete these instructions using Safari on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Install VPN Profile for iPhone or iPod Touch

To install the VPN profile for iPhone or iPod Touch, do the following:

  1. Launch Safari on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
  2. Using Safari on your iPhone or iPod Touch, download the VPN profile.
    • This download is available only to faculty and staff at Illinois State University.
    • You must use Safari on your iPhone or iPod Touch to download and install the VPN profile.
  3. Safari will close and you will see a window named Install Profile.
  4. Press the Install button.
  5. A message will appear which says, IMPORTANT: The authenticity of "ISU iPhone VPN Profile" cannot be verified. Installing this profile will change the settings on your iPhone. Click Install Now.
  6. If you have a passcode set on your iPhone or iPod Touch, enter it when prompted.
  7. Enter your ULID in the box labeled Enter your username for the VPN profile "VPN (ISU VPN)".
  8. Click Next.
  9. Enter your password in the box labeled Enter your password for the VPN profile "VPN (ISU VPN)".
    • This is your ULID password.
  10. Click Next.
  11. You will see a message that says, Profile Installed.
  12. Click Done.

Connecting with VPN on iPhone or iPod Touch

You should connect to VPN only when you need to access restricted resources on the campus network. For normal Internet usage, please make sure VPN is turned off.

To connect with VPN using iPhone or iPod Touch, do the following:

  1. Press the Home button.
  2. Press Settings.
  3. Press the VPN switch to change it from Off to On.
  4. iPhone or iPod Touch will automatically connect to VPN.
  5. You will see a message that says, VPN Connection Welcome to ISU. Click OK.

While you are connected to VPN, a VPN symbol appears at the top of iPhone or iPod Touch.

Important: While you are connected to VPN, you will be unable to use the Mail app to check email. To work around this problem, disconnect from VPN when you want to check email.

Disconnecting from VPN

To disconnect from VPN, do the following:

  1. Press the Home button.
  2. Press Settings.
  3. Press the VPN switch to change it from On to Off.
