How do I find a building on the campus map?

There are several ways to find a building (or another location) on the campus map website.

There are four ways you can find a location on the campus map.

  • Zoom In and Look Around - If you have a general idea of where to look, you can just zoom in on the map and start looking around.

  • Panel of Popular Locations - A panel of popular buildings, parking areas, and other locations is found on the left side of the map.

  • Search the Campus Map - Searching the map is a good way to find offices and services that are located inside buildings. For example, search for "Help Desk" to find Julian Hall.

  • Campus Map A-Z - Nearly all campus locations are found on the Campus Map A-Z page, which lists university locations in alphabetical order.

Zoom In and Look Around

If you already have a general idea about where a building is located on campus, you can zoom in and pan around to find the building. Buildings, sports fields, and other points of interest are labeled on the campus map, though you need to zoom in to see location names.

  1. Go to the campus map website at http://maps.ilstu.edu/.
  2. Zoom in on the map using your mouse wheel or by clicking the plus (+) button in the upper-left corner of the map. After zooming in twice, you should see that each location on campus is labeled.
  3. Move the map around by "grabbing" it. Press and hold your left mouse button and drag your mouse to move the map around.
  4. Visually scan the map for the building or location you're looking for.
  5. Click the building to get an information bubble.
  6. Click the More Information link in the information bubble to see details about the location.

Panel of Popular Locations

The most prominent buildings on campus are included in the panel found on the left side of the campus map. Some buildings are not included here and you'll need to find them in another way. Refer to "Search the Campus Map" and "Campus Map A-Z" below. If you already have an idea of where the building in question is located, you can also zoom in and look around, as described above.

  1. Go to the campus map website at http://maps.ilstu.edu/.
  2. Click one of the building categories, like Residence Halls or Classroom Buildings, to expand a list of prominent buildings.
  3. Put a check mark next to each building you want to locate on the campus map. This puts a marker on the location on the campus map.
  4. Look for the marker(s) you added to determine the building's location.
  5. Click a marker to get an information bubble.
  6. Click the More Information link in the information bubble to see details about the location.

Search the Campus Map

You can search the campus map for any building, office, or location at Illinois State. This is helpful when you are looking for less prominent buildings, which may not appear in the panel of popular locations, or when you want to determine the building in which a particular office is located. For example, if you did not know the University Computer Help Desk office was in Julian Hall, you could search for "Help Desk" to find out.

  1. Go to the campus map website at http://maps.ilstu.edu/.
  2. Type your search in the Search Campus Map... box and click Go.
  3. A list of results are returned based on your search criteria.
  4. If you don't see what you're looking for in the search results, try modifying your search. For example, searching for "Alumni Building" does not return the appropriate match, but searching for "Alumni" returns "Alumni Center" as the first match.

Campus Map A-Z

Nearly all locations on the campus map are found on the Campus Map A-Z page. This web page simply lists locations in alphabetical order.

  1. Go to the campus map website at http://maps.ilstu.edu/.
  2. Click the Campus Map A-Z link located above the map.
  3. Click the letter of the first word in the building or location you're looking for. For example, if you want to find Bone Student Center, click B to jump to buildings whose names begin with the letter "B."
