How to search using LDAP on iPhone or iPod Touch

Search for people at Illinois State University using LDAP on iPhone or iPod Touch.

Searching for People at Illinois State

To search for people at Illinois State, do the following:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Press Contacts > Groups > dspublic.ilstu.edu.
    • Press Phone > Contacts > Groups > dspublic.ilstu.edu.
    • Open any app that makes use of Contacts. On the Contacts screen, press Groups > dspublic.ilstu.edu.
  2. Type a person's first name, last name, or ULID in the search box.
    • Your search automatically begins as soon as you start typing.
  3. Press a person's name to see information about that person, such as his or her email address.

Search Results

When you search for someone in LDAP, the information returned is based on whether the person is a student, an employee (faculty/staff), or a retiree.

For an employee, LDAP returns the following:

  • Name, job title, and department
  • University phone number
  • University email address
  • University address

For a student, LDAP returns the following:

  • Name and year in school
  • University email address

For a retiree, LDAP returns the following:

  • Name, job title, retired status, and department
  • University email address
  • (Retirees who are still performing paid work for the University will also have their university phone number and address dispalyed in LDAP search results.)
