Automatically configuring "isunet" on Windows Vista using "setup-isunet"

Connect to the "setup-isunet" wireless network to automatically configure your Windows Vista computer for "isunet."

Before You Begin

These instructions are for Windows Vista computers. Follow these instructions to automatically configure your computer for access to "isunet" wireless.

To complete these instructions, you must be in a location where "setup-isunet" and "isunet" are available. For more information on the availability of "isunet," refer to 1187: Overview of wireless access at Illinois State University.

Following these instructions will automatically configure your computer to use WPA2/AES with MS-PEAP. The Entrust security certificates needed for "isunet" will also be automatically downloaded and installed on your computer.

Simple Instructions

Automatically configuring your Windows Vista computer for "isunet" wireless access is easy. These simple instructions give you the basics. Detailed instructions are available below in case you need them.

  1. Connect to "setup-isunet" on your Windows Vista computer.
  2. Open a web browser, like Firefox or Internet Explorer.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Your computer will be automatically configured for "isunet" wireless access. When the configuration is done, you will automatically be switched over to the "isunet" wireless network.

Detailed Instructions

To automatically configure your computer to connect to "isunet," connect to "setup-isusnet" first. Do the following:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click Connect to the Internet under Network and Internet. Then click Wireless. A window with a list of wireless networks will appear.
    • Double-click Network and Sharing Center. Then click Connect to a network. A window with a list of wireless networks will appear.
  3. Select setup-isu-resnet and click Connect.
  4. You will see a message that says, setup-isu-resnet is an unsecured network. Click Connect Anyway.
  5. You will see a message that says, Successfully connected to setup-isu-resnet. Do not put a check mark in the box labeled Save this network.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Windows Vista will test your Internet connection and will display a message. Do one of the following:
    • If you see a message that says, Successfully connected to setup-isu-resnet, click Next. Do not put a check mark in the box labeled Save this network. You will see the message, You are connected to the Internet. Click Close.
    • If you see a message that says, The Internet connectivity test was unsuccessful, click Set up the connection anyway. Then click Close.
  8. Launch a web browser, such as Firefox or Internet Explorer. You will automatically be taken to the XpressConnect web page.
    • If you are not automatically taken to the XpressConnect web page, try browsing to an off-campus website like http://www.google.com. You should be redirected to the XpressConnect web page.
  9. Put a check mark in the box labeled I accept the terms of the End-User License Agreement.
  10. Click Start.
  11. XpressConnect will open a new window which will be used to automatically configure your computer for "isu-resnet" wireless.
  12. Click Continue.
  13. Enter your ULID and password.
  14. Click Continue.
  15. XpressConnect will automatically configure your computer and switch it over to the "isunet" wireless network.
  16. At the end of the process, the Cisco NAC agent will launch the Help Desk website.

You are now connected to "isunet" and can browse the Web, check email, etc.
