Connecting to "isu-public" wireless on Windows 7

Visitors to campus can access "isu-public," an open wireless network available in Milner Library. These instructions are for Windows 7.

Before You Begin

The "isu-public" wireless network is available in Milner Library. Anyone can connect to the "isu-public" wireless network.

Connect to "isu-public" on Windows 7

To connect to the "isu-public" wireless network with Windows Vista, do the following:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Click View network status and tasks under Network and Internet.
  3. Click Connect to a network.
  4. Select isu-public and click the Connect button.
  5. When you will see a message that says, Select a location for the 'isu-public' network, click Public network.

You are now connected to the "isu-public" wireless network.

Restrictions

The following restrictions apply to the "isu-public" wireless network:

  • The "isu-public" wireless network is only available in Milner Library.
  • The "isu-public" wireless network is open and unencrypted.
  • You cannot connect to the campus VPN, but third-party VPN connections are allowed.
  • You cannot access internal university resources, but you can access public resources. An internal resource is an Illinois State website or service that normally requires a VPN connection from off campus.
  • Peer-to-peer (P2P) network traffic is blocked on all campus wireless networks.
