McAfee Security for Mac replaces McAfee VirusScan for Mac

McAfee Security for Mac is the latest anti-virus product for Mac OS X.

McAfee Security for Mac

McAfee Security for Mac is now available for download. This product is the latest anti-virus application released by McAfee for Mac OS X.

As of this announcement on September 21, 2009, McAfee VirusScan for Mac is no longer available for download on the University Computer Help Desk website.

You can download McAfee Security for Mac from the Help Desk website. If you are a student who connects to ResNet, please read the considerations below before downloading and installing McAfee Security for Mac.

Students on ResNet

Students who use Cisco Network Access Control (NAC) to connect to ResNet should continue using McAfee VirusScan 8.6.1, as this version is required for ResNet. To determine if you use Cisco NAC for ResNet, refer to 1513: Understanding ResNet registration and Cisco NAC on Mac OS X.

If you remove McAfee VirusScan 8.6.1 from your computer, Cisco NAC will detect the change and require you to reinstall it. Because you should not run more than one anti-virus application at a time, you should wait until NAC supports McAfee Security for Mac before installing it.

The only exception is if you are running Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Even if you are a student living in a residence hall where Cisco NAC is being used, you can install McAfee Security for Mac onto a computer running Snow Leopard because Cisco NAC does not support Snow Leopard and because McAfee VirusScan 8.6.1 is not supported under Snow Leopard.
