Configuring QWS3270 Secure for access to the mainframe

Configure QWS3270 Secure to access the mainframe at Illinois State University.

Before You Begin

To connect to the mainframe at Illinois State University, you must use a secure 3270 client. You can download QWS3270 Secure for Windows from the Help Desk website. This client is preconfigured to connect to the mainframe.

Before using QWS3270 Secure to connect to the mainframe from off campus, you must establish a VPN connection using either the Cisco VPN client or Network Connect in WebVPN. For more information, refer to 1091: Connecting with Cisco VPN Client for Windows or 1322: How to use Network Connect in WebVPN.

Configure QWS3270 Secure

Because QWS3270 Secure is preconfigured with the University's mainframe settings, it is not normally necessary to configure it yourself. However, if the need arises, you can configure QWS3270 Secure for access to the mainframe by following the instructions below.

To configure QWS3270 Secure to access the mainframe at Illinois State, do the following:

  1. Launch QWS3270 Secure.
  2. Click Options > Session.
  3. Enter mvs.cmp.ilstu.edu in the box labeled, Host Name or IP Address:.
  4. Enter 992 in the box labeled, Port Number:.
  5. Put a check mark next to the option labeled, Use 3270 Enhanced Protocol (if supported).
  6. Click Security on the left.
  7. Put a check mark next to the option labeled, Enable Secure Connection.
  8. Select SSLv3 under SSL/TLS Protocol Version.
  9. Put a check mark next to the option labeled, Accept Self Signed Certificate.
  10. Click Apply.
  11. Click OK.

QWS3270 Secure is now configured to connect to the mainframe.

Configure Auto Connect

To configure QWS3270 Secure to automatically connect to the mainframe when you launch it, do the following:

  1. Launch QWS3270 Secure.
  2. Click Options > Application.
  3. Select Auto Connect under Startup Options.
  4. Click OK.

QWS327 Secure is now configured to automatically connect.
