CyberSecurity Month - October 2009

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. This event is sponsored by the National Cyber Security Alliance, a collaboration of public and private institutions. NCSA provides tools and resources to empower home users, schools, colleges, and universities to stay safe online.

To promote cyber security awareness at Illinois State, we are bringing together topics that help you stay safe online. These topics include:

Each week, read the Help Desk knowledge base article and watch the video. Then take the weekly quiz to register to win one of four iPod Nanos and the Xbox 360 grand prize! Come back each week to get another shot at an iPod Nano and to increase your chances at winning the Xbox 360.

Guest Speaker Event - Malware, The Hidden Threat

Tuesday, October 20 at 3:00pm in the Circus Room, Bone Student Center.

Nick Percoco, an ISU alumnus who now works full-time in IT security, will present an overview of three different types of malware that have been used to commit some of the largest data breaches in history. The presentation will include several real-world case studies as well as provide insight into malware and attack prevention. Refreshments will be served.

  • Week 1 — Phishing Scams

    Phishing emails try to trick you into sending your personal information through email or over the Web. Illinois State University has been targeted by phishing emails for the past few years. You should learn to recognize and avoid phishing scams.

  • Week 2 — Viruses & Malware
